State's corn harvest lagging

The Illinois 2009 harvest is late because of a combination of a wet, cool spring delaying planting, and a cold, wet October.

And despite the seventh-warmest November on record, more than one-fourth of the Illinois corn crop remains in the fields.

Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel said that based on preliminary data, the statewide average temperature for November was 46.9 degrees, 5.1 degrees above normal. November was the seventh-warmest on record (tied with 1913); the warmest November on record is a tie between 1931 and 2001, both with 49.8 degrees. Statewide records date to 1895
