If you're having to scrimp and sacrifice to pay your taxes you're probably not managing your finances very well. You might consider moving to a state without an income tax or otherwise adjusting your situation to pay fewer taxes. Rich people do these things all the time, but middle class people seem to mainly sit around and bitch about their taxes instead of trying to pay less (legally of course). I don't have a problem paying my taxes. But then I make almost no money. perhaps you would do better in a lower income bracket? Reduce the need to earn and reduce the need to pay taxes. You might consider going to a tax counsellor to see if there are credits or deductions you're missing out on.

Or we could raise the tax rate on the top earners, which is extremely low currently by historical standards. But that would be heresy.
