Sharron Angle’s energy plan

Sharron Angle’s energy plan: Deregulate the ‘mining industry,’ as well as the ‘oil and petroleum industry’

The Tea Party crowd is anti-science, pro-pollution and anti-regulation. This wouldn’t matter so much if they remained a fringe group. But they have been embraced by the mainstream conservative movement, and successfully won GOP nominations for national office (see Rand Paul: “I believe business should be left alone from government”).

One of the biggest successes of the Tea Party movements is U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle (R-NV). Think Progress has the latest on her extreme pro-Big-Oil and pro-mining views:

On May 26, a few weeks after BP’s oil disaster began, U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle (R-NV) told a local media outlet that her solution to America’s energy policy would be to “deregulate” the oil industry. While both conservatives and liberals agree that this catastrophe could have been prevented if BP had invested more in safety and if regulators had been more attentive, few, if any, have taken the extreme view at there is actually too much regulation on the oil industry.

She also seems to be infavor of bringing all the countries nuclear waste to Nevada so it can be reprocessed. Something that Harry Reid seems to oppose. It could be done very cheaply and easily if you eliminate all thoughs stupid regulations. :-D

She is now tied with Reid, or up a point, depending on which poll you use. If he doesn't do something soon she will indeed beat the pants off of him in the election.

This is an interesting match up indeed. Nevada is an unsustainable creation of cheap hydroelectric in the desert leveraging cheap gasoline and jet fuel to build a gambling mecca surrounded by unsustainable real estate explosive growth.
Harry Reid has been the man behind playing ball with all the casino folks, the real estate developers, the gold miners and other miners who get huge tax breaks, and in essence the man who kept the water on and the moolah flowing in for the monster Ponzi schemes of misallocated resources that are the major cities in Nevada.

Sharron Angle may get elected because Harry is unable to deliver enough water to keep Ponzi dancing in the desert and giving away comp shrimp coctails. But her doctrine is suitable for conservative rule, and conservative rule would require that 80% of the people in Nevada pack up and git and have them find a sustainable place to live and exist. Places in the unsustainable desert in Arizona are going to do the same thing, wish to elect a person like Angle who would be ideal for a sustainable place like Ohio, or Oregon, or where most of them hail from, only to find out they need a big wasteful pork pumping corporatist to keep the comfy digs they retired to, running in a place that naturally only supports a few little clumps of humans in austere living conditions.

She is as geographically misplaced as would be a permaculturist taking out the mayor of New York because the economy is in the tank and the people want his blood for their pain, and then announcing that everyone should grab their hoe and sun hat and meet them on the green for a raised bed garden lesson and a little bonus session on edible berries.

Sharron Angle will be totally managed by a Republican who is a Ponzi water boy like Harry Reid and she will be a figurehead, or else she will be driven out of town.

Las Vegas is mad because Ponzi is sick, they want a new water boy, a nice old lady with a Tea Pot will only work until they get even with a water boy who failed them. Then the dizzy old gal can hit the bricks.

So what will Republicans really have to do to keep Nevada? They will have to fire up Star Wars and massive military projects to pump money into the industry that beat the gamblers to the desert. Weapons testing, weapons building, and government spending on a massive scale to prop up Ponzi in desert.

This does not jive one bit with what the Tea Party seems to be about. They are going to be assimilated, used as a mask for corporatist Republicans, and then discarded when they start to bitch and embarrass the GOP.

The Grand Oligarchy Party don't need no people around who want to dismantle their big global money machine and let the little people get out from under the steam roller while they have a nickel left in their pants.

If we survive this mess, it will not be because of government but in spite of it. Ninety years of growth has left us with bankrupt institutions and rotting cities. Peak oil will force a contraction. Cities and towns are going to have to solve their own problems. Energy and security are going to be primary concerns. My fear is that state and local governments will re read the 13th amendment and find a ready labor force in convict populations. Vagrants may once again find themselves on the county prison farms growing beans for county soup lines.

In the face of disappearing jobs and declining sales, the thing that scares me the most is the rise in local property taxes. Property taxes can turn us all into homeless vagabonds.

Plant you come from a federal spending welfare state, and so does Sarah Palin.

the Alaskan economy, beautiful treasure and vital piece of America that it is, would be nothing
population wise, without Ted Stevens and Murkowski bringing home the federal pork year after year to prop it up, and of course the other leg being petroleum revenue, again federally subsidized.

Alaska is a totally sustainable environment on it's own, but not to scale as it has been run,
and like Nevada, with Tea Party austere spending and true conservatism, it is another whisp
of a populace that would not have any political clout whatsoever. People there not in tourism or
natural resources related pursuits would have to sit around playing the stock market to participate
in real economies of large scale somewhere else.

Alaska is a Republican federal spending and petroleum tax revenue welfare state.

I applaud real conservatism and grass roots efforts to return our nation to sanity, but let's not pretend
that the federal dole to Alaska and the federal dole to Nevada is building a sustainable United States.
I don't care if Ted Stevens, Harry Reid, Sarah Palin, or the tooth fairy is pitching the deal, it is still nonsense.

The problem y'all are having is that you don't know how to translate from Republicanese. The term "deregulate" in this context is best rendered as "set free to loot as much money as they can squeeze out of the customers, taxpayers, and future generations."
