Anybody ever seal off a pilot light?

Unread postby Lumpy » Thu 31 Mar 2011, 00:13:02

We have this commercial-sized propane stove (came with the farm house.) It is HUGE. Six burners, two ovens, a griddle, and a broiler. Each one has a pilot light.

Most of the time the max we need is two burners. Sometimes one oven. (Just two of us living here.)

Want to seal off feeds to the rest of the pilot lights, so that we are not just burning up propane to keep them lit for no reason.

Would like to do it in some way that is secure, safe, but could be reversed if we had a bunch of company over for a holiday or something.

Anyone ever done anything like this before??

I believe the pressure is pretty low, something under 6 psi.

I think I would use something like Rescue Tape to close off the pilot and maybe put a hose clamp around it.

Don't know what your set up looks like so this could be totally idiotic.

You get what you pay for so I would check further first.

Well, the odds are that for somebody else, you're that person.
So take the amount you think you know, reduce it by 99.999%, and then you'll have an idea of how much you actually know..."
