Oil production and refinery techniques have been evolving since the beginning. I don't think "blaming" technology for the abundance of petroleum is productive. Remember, Hubbert predicted 1995 as the world peak oil year. He didn't hedge his bets with disclaimers about heavy oil, steam injection, or catalytic cracking. Let's celebrate our good fortune, not commiserate about Hubbert's failed predictions.
