An offer for a wager

Unread postby Cog » Sun 18 Sep 2011, 23:23:52

As most of you know, I like betting on events. I've lost two $50 wagers to OF2 since I've been a member here on GDP results. I think OF2 will attest that I've paid off rapidly on those bets when I lost. So here is what I propose:

For the first two takers, I will bet $50 that whoever the Republican nominee turns out to be, he/she will beat President Obama in the 2012 presidential election.

I would hope there are some people out there who still have faith in President Obama to pull this off.

This wager offer is good until December 31st 2011.

You can place your bet on intrade:

Barack Obama to be re-elected President in 2012

Last prediction was: $5.00 / share
Chance 50.0%
http://www.intrade.com/v4/markets/contract/?contractId=743474

If you're so sure why didn't you bet in May?

I want to see if there are any people with confidence here. What say you Sixstrings? Its only $50. Think how much trash you can talk when you get my money through the mail.

Would you be willing to bet that another unspecific party member (not necessarily Tea Party) would beat Obama or is this wager only valid for a Republican party member?

Sounds like easy $$$ but I believe a lot will happen before the new year so I'm just ask'n.

Check the intrade link. It's not a fair bet unless Cog is offering points. I was born at night but not last night.

A much more interesting bet would be who wins the Repub nomination. Make that bet now, while it's very much up in the air between Romney and Perry. I'm not a gambler so I'm not betting but just saying.

This wager is restricted to the Republican nominee versus Obama.

i think a Republican should have taken that bet, so he/she will be compensated if Rep candidate will be trashed.

If the GOPers wins, our new national currency is likely to be pine cones or something similar. Is that OK?

I already bet against the current president being re-elected, even before any party had nominated a candidate for the 2008 presidency. Towards the end of the Bush administration, I predicted no president from any party could survive the wreckage he would inherit. I'll be surprised if I'm wrong.

I agree, it was very clear as far back as 2006 that the Bushies were leaving an economic time bomb for the next president or congress, probably so the Bushies could come back after a 4 year vacation.

The flaw in the plan was that the ballon popped in 2007 instead of 2009.

I not only saw this coming, but when it happened it was also far far worse than the Bushies intended because they could not keep things afloat until after the election.

Wager accepted. Wagers on this thread are now closed.

Good luck to my opposite numbers on the wager and enjoy the drama.

What color is the sky in your world?

So you are implying that the party of something for nothing, redistributionism without limit, massive (unproductive) government makes everything better despite all evidence to the contrary -- will be better for the dollar?

This with the Obama deficits, which are OK with the dems, even though they hollered mightily at the Bush deficits of 30% or so of the current size.

You people just AMAZE me. The hard right GOP has MANY flaws which I despise. Wanting to control my morals, my religion, complete science denial, and endless devotion to a war machine are among these. But at least the GOP understands the concept that wealth is PRODUCED by WORK, and that incentives (which lead to wealth disparity - boo hoo) greatly enhance such wealth production.

Better that everybody starve than some guy who risks a lot and works 100 hours a week can afford more than the bum who refuses to work hard, if at all. What a productive and logical ethos!

(Greece is a darn good model of that ethos on steroids, by the way).
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Bumping this thread to remind my counter-parts on their wager. Hmm, now that we know the Republican candidate is Romney, I'm a lot more comfortable with my wager on this. Gingrich, Santorum, or Perry would have been a disaster for me.

Romney will be an even bigger disaster for you.

Cog, I'm still here. You haven't chased this libturd off yet  I feel pretty comfortable with my wager as well. I'm curious to see what else we find out about Mitt the twit over these next few months.

Is is libturd or libtard ? The right is so clever with their words. Should the Romney worshipers be twitturds, or twittards ?

By every historic measure this should be a landslide win for <generic> republican, especially given their control of key state governments (Ohio, Virginia, Florida, etc). But, I'd put the odds about even given the specific candidates.
