Anybody else notice all the zombie posts saying bizarre things, or selling products, or acting as advertisements?

There are lots of ways to reduce spam bots, most if not all become ineffective shortly after implementation.

It's difficult. I've deleted more spam account in the last few days than I can count, and I am not the only one deleting.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

FWIW, thanks to the admins for trying on the SPAM. The folks trying to spend their time more usefully on the web DO appreciate it, even if we forget to say it very often.

I'd like to see the perpetrators of SPAM, bots, etc. forced to donate to the websites they damage, or work it off doing useful work cities need like cleaning parks. Never happen though, as I suppose most of this stuff comes from Russia, eastern Europe, etc.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

I've lost count of the number of posts I've recently reported as spam, hopefully when the signup process is locked down, it'll put an end to it.

Why would anyone in Russia want to attack this web-site? Its target audience is far from Russia, no one even took note here that Mr Putin was about to be nominated to run for Russia's presidency in 2012, although this is a matter of some significance in the energy world.

You can probably make a web attack looking like coming from Russia or India by using proxies or other technical means. Given the hints that the attacks are widely spread geographically, it is not unlikely that they originate from a single source not necessarily within the borders of the spam-generating countries.
