Newsweek conducted a study of 165 countries to find the best countries for women based on five categories:
Justice: Laws protecting women from domestic violence, marital rape and child marriage and guaranting women access to land and bank loans.
Health: Levels of maternal death and infant mortality, HIV and access to safe abortions and skilled health care workers.
Education: Education level, literacy and gender parity in schools.
Economics.: Percentage of women in workforce, gender pay gap, access to all industries and ability to climb corporate ladder.
Politics: Women in government.
Canada came in at number 3, the only non European country to make the top five. Only Iceland and Sweden topped us. The US came in at number 8, scoring high in education but well behind Canada in economics and justice. We are about equal in politics and health.
Canada got a low score in politicbecause we have relativly few women in government. Sweden a low score in justice because of their high level of domestic violence. We finished ahead of both Sweden and the US in economics and justice. So im glad to be Canadian.
