What if you live in a country(Turkey) with gasoline prices above $10 ?

Nonsense.

The world most expensive petrol is in Australia where in the black market (yes market for black people) it cost

$70 / 1.5 litres = 46.67 dollars per litre

or 46.67 * 3.785 = $ 176.63 per gallon!!!

See for yourself

Vicki Gillick, from the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women' s Council, said piecemeal rollout of the fuel could make the problem worse, creating a black market where traffickers were selling 1.5 litres of petrol for up to A$70.

How about price compared to purchasing power, e.g., compare the price per liter to the min. daily wage or the ave. annual wage?

Opal fuel is crap. Not only you can't get high on it, it wrecks your engine.
The drug mess in the APY is caused by government. The preferred drug is Nyarndi (Ganga/ Cannabis) but that's bad right?/ So petrol sniffing is a cheap alternative, even at $70 a liter.

But this story has everything to do with substance abuse and nothing to do with vehicle fuel!

Just hope they don't try to smoke at the same time!

petrol sniffing is another issue, I just mean the gasoline prices at the pump.

If we consider "pain at the pump" , India will be the one who uses the most expensive gasoline

In Turkey, gasoline is more than $10/gal and minimum wage in Turkey is $428

Yet, car sales are booming.

Go figure

In other parts of the world, it's around $4 a gallon but minimum wage is less than $10 a day.

Minimum & average wages are meaningless reference points in third world countries, only the welthier people can earn enough to own and run a car.

Ralphy has spent plenty of time in Asia, as have I, and many others here. The comment above by dolan is wrong. About a billion people in SE Asia and another billion around the rest of the world earn between $5- $10 a day. That is reality regardless of the .0000001% or 3% controlling 90% of the wealth, depending on specifics. The average commuter vehicle for the 2 billion is a motorcycle, usually a 100 mpg 125cc cheaply made chinese copy of a japanese bike. Tell the 2 billion they shouldn't care about the price of oil because they can't afford a car anyhow.

I have also spent some time in SE Asia & Africa, and I stand by that statment, most of the people who earn that kind of money don't have their own personal vehicle, they share one with the rest of their family.

They are meaningful because fuel isn't just used for family-owned cars but for public transport, deliveries of various goods, etc. That's why when the price of oil goes up, not only does the price of petrol go up but also the price of food, medicine, etc. All of these things are important to those earning very low wages.

A slippery argument dolan. Having a personal vehicle is besides the point. Most households in the $5- $10 a day bracket do have a scooter or 2 around. Many have one for each working adult. + what Ralphy said.
