Merry Christmas you-all
Santa brought me one of those heater things that go on a propane bottle, some long underwear, a used book and some homemade geegaws from the kids. I like getting gifts even if it's underwear. Especially if it's underwear in fact, LOL. I did my shopping online, drop-shipped a Kreg pocket hole jig to DD who is quite the DIYer, "A Pattern Language" book on architecture to DS who is returning to school to study architecture and a Bella Fleck album to DIL who is learning the Bang-o.
Kids and grandkids are spread from CA to GA this year but we Skyped and watched as they opened their gifts from us, which of course including lots of gram-made clothes – a true miracle of modern technology for anyone older than 30 or so!
Susan is fixing the big meal - trying to learn to make it littler. She hasn't quite got the hang of the littler part yet, maybe a couple of drop ins will help me out.
Modern life has very few ties to the natural world, celebrating the winter solstice is about the only one left, it's alright to enjoy family, friends, food. Even you atheists can out there can take comfort in knowing "No Religion" is the world's 3rd largest "religion" (with a bullet!) and predates all the rest, so be of good cheer!
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
-- Abraham Lincoln, Fragment on Government (July 1, 1854)
