Time Test, what state should you live in?

Unread postby Tanada » Wed 23 Oct 2013, 13:30:55

TIME magazine put up a interactive test, answer 10 questions and it tells you where it thinks you should live.

So where should YOU live?
Alfred Tennyson wrote:We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I live in the wrong state. (I knew there was something wrong when i got out of bed this morning!)

Heck. I wonder if there's an international version of this test. I could be living in the wrong country.

New Mexico, apparently. I grew up in Arizona, been to NM lots of times. Too damn dry. Nice country, though, at least some of it.

The top scorers on extroversion were the ebullient folks of Wisconsin (picture the fans at a Packers game — even a losing Packers game). The lowest score went to the temperamentally snowbound folks of Vermont.

I'm doubtful that states would show significant variation in percentage of extroverts vs. introverts. Not saying it isn't possible, but seems unlikely. I think this is primarily biological, not cultural.

That said, I'm a very strong introvert, somewhere around a 90 on a 100 point scale. And I have been thinking about moving to Vermont. Maybe it's kismet

I got New Mexico. Lived there one summer in my teens, did not fit in at all.

silly internet nonsense. I like silly internet nonsense.
No way in hell though am I moving to Massachusetts from Florida. Where's the climate component in this?

Plus I wouldn't want to be hung with the inevitable assimilation of accent. Ick! "I live in Boo-awe-ston. It's wicked awesome!"
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

I second that, except I often dislike internet nonsense -- it depends.

Mine said New Mexico. I'm mostly quiet, reserved, organized, and nervous. Now, what the hell do things like that really have to do with what state you should live in?

I'd think things like climate, population density, proximity to family, health issues (like allergies), etc. would make a ton more sense.

Plus if you look at the percentages for each state by category, the differences are mostly statistical noise. Most of the ten catagories are clumped around the middle third, as would be expected.

To me, stuff like this is mostly click-bait. (Sorry to be a Debbie Downer - you can add basically honest to my list of attributes).
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
