Outstanding: our membership represents 0.011% of the US population. I can just smell the change coming. Well, I can smell something. LOL.

post1000002.html

That is post 1,000,002. Judging by the date I would guess that the current count doesn't include housands of SPAM posts that were deleted since this place was created. Looks like every post gets a number when it is sent and he number you quoted is just the posts still on the site.

My last post before this one was
post1175674.html
1,175,674 which means an awful lot of spam has been deleted over the ten years since this place came into existance.

SG, ironically I think YOU are the millionth poster. I took Subjectivist's link, changed it to 1,000,000 and got this:

Anyone with a brain can figure that nastiness galore is going on in Afghanistan.
I suspect that as usual, even if wikileaks release this data, it will not see the light of day in the MSM.
Occasional f%@#ups aside, evidence of a continued campaign of over the top violence with scant regard for 'collateral damage' would be pretty bad for the USA's already suffering PI.

Subject is right the count is in the post title in the latest database but the DB and post titles have been reshuffled and the posts renamed at least once and maybe twice - which is why lots of internal links in old threads no longer work. Probably the resets of the post count ignored threads that didn't match the new convention or some such.

I fiddled around and found the number of the first thread I show my grubby fingers in (and tell my first fib as it turns out):
Post 28

I'd be willing to stipulate however that SG is the One Millionth poster - and wins the grand prize . . .

Oh no! Not the rabbit hole! (Aye's born and bred in the rabbit hole brer' Wolf- born and bred!) 8)

(I have been hovering around half of 1% of peakoil.com's board posts a couple of years now- so it's a one in 200 chance, less considering the number of voluminous posters no longer with us- more considering there may have only been 50 really active the week of the millionth post.)

It sounds as if the tracking equipment for trains is not as good as what they have on trucks. But I guess that shouldn't surprise me. The GPS and data systems on trucks save the company money. Putting the same thing on trains just improves safety.

Using the method of subtracting 860 posts past 1,000,000 from the current unfiltered total (given we have had very little spam recently)- The above post quoted was the millionth- Surf's 10'th post! (You comin' down Surf? There aint no tar baby down here!)

Funny you mention that- I've recently been convinced to put some skin in the game this year- testing my theory that it's been the lack of such which has helped me and some others here become the most accurate oil price forecasters on the planet. If my guesses for 2014 are anywhere near correct there will be a lot of upward strokes coming. The details are yet to fill themselves in and of course we will have the monthly or so spiel on here about why prices are about to crash- baloney this year as every year since 2009.
