Paczki (Punch-Key)

Its Fat Tuesday once again, and aound these parts Paczki Polish Pastries are the traditional feast of the day.

A heavy dense doughy fruit filled donut crammed with calories.

Whats your favorite flavor? Home made, small independent bakery or industrial scale bake chain shop?

For me it is the Lemon filled with prune filled as my close second, independent local bakery.
II Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Raspberry, Apricot, Prune...they are all good!

I used to go to the local bakery but where I live now doesn't have a local bakery. I need to find a supplier because it is a once a year event and now I am hungry for them!

Never had a Paczki, I'll check the recipe out.

Made me think to share a recipe my missus has just started making it's absolutely delicious.

It's called magic cake and it really tastes fantastic, but also cooks like magic.

You basically make one mix following the recipe method and bake it and it comes out with 3 layers.

We discovered it about a fortnight ago and have already made 5 or 6.

My Polish relatives make Nalesniki, but if they have Paczki they are holding out on me. Maybe from a different part of Poland?

Could be, I had a Polish immigrant uncle who could curse you out in 5 or 7 languages if you made him mad. About 25 years ago the Paczki phenomenon spread from Detroit/Hamtramck/Wayne county to the four bordering counties, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Monroe. Growing up in Monroe County introduced me to these things way back then and I really like them, but normally only eat them right before Lent when it is a big deal in Detroit/Hamtramck and Toledo(Polish Village)/Lucas County.
