Polluted air linked to 7 million deaths in 2012 - WHO

(Reuters) - Air pollution killed about 7 million people in 2012, making it the world's single biggest environmental health risk, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Tuesday.

The toll, a doubling of previous estimates, means one in eight of all global deaths in 2012 was linked to polluted air and shows how reducing pollution inside and outside of people's homes could save millions of lives in future, the United Nations health agency said.

Air pollution deaths are most commonly from heart disease, strokes or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is also linked to deaths from lung cancer and acute respiratory infections.

Here in Germany it is not so bad and 40 Million cars+ trucks are still moving and polluting.

Our dirty coal fired power plants are running @ full speed sucking O2 and emitting smog and CO2

So everything is as normal as it used to be we are making progress.......

Es ist nun vorbei. Das mit dem Sand hat die meisten wohl nicht so richtig gejuckt. Mich hat es jedoch ganz schön zum Keuchen gebracht, und ich musste wegen Asthma zum Arzt. Davon abgesehen hat es aber eher nichts mit Peakoil zu tun, oder?

Correct! Smog on its own has nothing to do with peak oil, but many posters here will post more about the environmental impact of fossil fuel consumption (smog, pollution or climate change) than they will about fossil fuel depletion.

London to be ‘smogged’ by polluted Paris
Britain is urging France to clean up its air as UK researchers warned that smog from Paris could be blown by strong winds to London and the south coast of England by Friday, local media reported.
