Global Village Construction Set-

Unread postby Kylon » Sat 31 May 2014, 20:30:57

Hi, something that might be useful in a collapsed world would be information acquired through the global village construction set.

It's open source, its working on a lot of designs for stuff, though not everything is complete in their research yet.

Thought I'd mention it, as it might be useful for everybody.

Such a situation exists 'made to order'. Dozens of cities in Syria have been utterly destroyed.
Some of these cities are older than the Christen Era. They will be replaced.
Not since WW 2 has the world witnessed such calamity, human caused.

While both Iran and Russia are responsible for defending a seriously defective government, both Saudi Arabia and the US deserve credit for extending three years of killing for another three, at minimum.

An entire culture in Libya also lies in ruins of Biblical proportions. Fighting there will progress until a Syrian level of devastation causes complete collapse.

The global village construction set seems to be a great idea, but I don't think it will never be completed. These guys don't seem to really have what it takes to get a product out. The last time I looked it was still very much in the idea prototype stage and it still seems very much in the idea prototype stage. It does not help that they have multiple goals and keep changing their minds.

I applaud their efforts, but it takes a lot to make really usable machines or tools. Striking out on your own with a new concept is hard and prone to failure after failure. Creating a set of designs that can be copied by very capable and not so capable customers is really hard. Doing it for less cost is even harder.

Take a look back in time. Machines or tools that could be built and used by the same individual are rare and are almost always inferior to machines built by a knowledgeable person or company with years of experience and knowledge. Machines are built by specialist.

Even horse drawn machines were purchased because farmers simply did not have the materials or skills to create them. Sure they could make a rock sled, a harrow, or a drag, but they could not make a machine with moving metal parts such as a rake or mower. Even wheels are hard. My grandfathers purchased most of their horse drawn implements. The same went for harnesses and chains. Even hand tools were purchased.
