well this article is a nice one I found about how serious academics and scientists are trying to be hushed and muted in the continuous struggle to show the true state of the planet and especially of the worsening climate chaos that is unfolding before our eyes. So I like others on this board refuse to let two-bit hucksters, charlatans and clueless skeptics pollute this Board with false or dubious denials info about the reality of climate change and other pressing environmental issues. Shooting the Messenger 4.0 :

1. Invalidate them by 'embroiling them in controversy' which is generally a meritless legal or disciplinary action of some sort, or something as simple as a mis-quote (making them look racist perhaps?) Destroying careers and reputations is the bomb.
2. Make sure any important signals get garbled by mis-information and lost in the noise. Ensure there's a high noise to signal ratio.
3. Build strawmen and create distractions like "Why it's Time to Put Lead Back in Gasoline - - And Tapwater" or "2014 set to host the coldest winter of the century" and then acuse climate scientists of trying to be "fortune tellers". Keep it simple enough to keep the simpletons 'knowledgable' and engaged in the diversion.
4. Create scapegoats and bizaar reasons they would want to 'freighten people' or 'attack capitalism' or 'damage the economy'; reasons like a socialist agenda; seed fear and play on it.
5. Continue to demonize the science and the scientists, whatever it takes. Pay your professional liars well. Good spin doctors are worth their weight in gold.
6. Accept no accountability whatsoever, while holding the mark accountable for things they have nothing to do with. The worst that can happen is that your lawyers will make a lot of money; just the cost of doing business.

Wow, great post Ghung, how the powers that be use different tactics to suppress the truth. And they have suppressed the truth about many things from what I have read. All in the effort it seems to me to maintain their power and also feed what seems an insatiable greed. Just to give one example look at the cigarette companies for so long they tried to suppress just how bad cigarettes were. So corporations have also engaged in truth suppression. Well all I can say is you can fool people but not Mother nature.

Appropriate or co-opt the language of critics. Greenwashing, "Clean Coal", "Building a sustainable economic future" (Canadian TV tar sands ad), etc.
Sometimes co-opt or buy off environmental groups.
