Declaration of Independence and what it means

Unread postby onlooker » Thu 03 Sep 2015, 15:49:36

Just was being a bit reflective today and I am always moved by this document as I have have read some of it. Basically it rails against the injustices of the Empire of that time Britain against the colonies. I just find especially these words so moving "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Then I think how rarely human societies have lived up to this ideal. What are the thoughts of others about these words and in general about the Declaration of Independence?
"We are mortal beings doomed to die
