How people judge others

Unread postby onlooker » Sat 16 Jan 2016, 20:36:20

just found this little article about observations of some Harvard psychologists purporting to evince results that indicate that two criteria predominate in how people judge others:
Can I trust you
Can I respect you.
Interesting.

That depends, this year or last year? Until recently we've had a lot of nice weather and some hardy folks are out. Last year we were froze in solid about now.

People do sail in these kind of conditions but they don't stray far or are pretty well prepared and with crew. Except Mat Rutherford, he's just nuts. And Ann Hills new beau, forget the name, he's the first to overwinter both the Arxtic and Antarctic. Trevor Robertson, that's the name.

Jared Diamond makes a similar point, should I kill him or not? Is the first question in interactions between strangers.

The Postman: Uh... Strangers... I hate this. Do they want to share what they got or take what you got? Do you say 'hi' or do you blow them away?

The Postman (1997)

“There are three classes of people: those who see. Those who see when they are shown. Those who do not see.” ― Leonardo da Vinci

Insensible before the wave so soon released by callous fate. Affected most, they understand the least, and understanding, when it comes, invariably arrives too late.

If they aren't trying to pick my pocket or break my leg, then I don't care what people want to do.
