Sustainable (2016) is a documentary video about sustainable food production and soil conservation and soil restoration. It is an excellant overview and will fill in the gaps of knowledge that many of us may have on this topic.

The video is 92 minutes in length and enjoyable to watch. Reccomended. I streamed it this morning on Amazon Prime.

It's not at all new age, it's full of chemistry and biology and no spiritualism whatsoever. You should watch it.

So you are saying the exact SAME THINGS that are in the video, which documents an organic co-op of farmers who are collectively growing vegetables, grains, and animals to satisfy the demand of premium Chicago restaurants. These people have achieved productivity per acre that equals or surpasses mechanized agriculture with chemicals, and have acheived profitability that is 500% of the corporate farmers in the area. Then they have an online catalog of fresh food, from which the cooks and chefs order, and a single truck that spends one long Wednesday making food deliveries each week.

The topic obviously interests you, you should watch the video and give us the educated opinion concerning it.

Thanks for the link Kaiser. Yeah, I have been slowly learning about sustainable agriculture and basic permaculture and holistic farming. It is a fascinating subject and perhaps the most critically important for humanity going forward on this planet. I in turn refer you guys to a book by William Kotke "The Final Empire: The Collapse of Civilization and the Seed of the Future Paperback – November 30, 2007. Our soils are pretty sterile and dead at this point and I would think need extensive rehabilitation. One thing my linked book talked about was the climate ecosystem and how that is the most productive and fertile environment for growing and harvesting. Well, it certainly contrasts greatly with what we have now which is immense denuded fields of monocrops. The other thing is I am not sure if any system of agriculture can now feed the populations of any large regions. Remember, all the extra nitrogen/carbon being introduced by the Haber Bosh process made possible by fossil fuels. When that goes away one has to wonder if natural systems and fertilizers can make up for it. So the prospects to feed current populations in almost every country without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides is very dicey and precarious at this point, or better yet I believe virtually impossible.
