Why People Reject Science

http://www.sciencealert.com/researchers ... -ignorance

I would expand this topic to represent why it is people have difficulty following the rigors of objective scientific method, therefore they either become denialists on one end or.....they are swayed by fast-crash pseudo-science on the other.

they 'cherry pick' the facts and studies that back up what they already believe to be true."
...
where is this denial of science coming from? A big part of the problem, the researchers found, is that people associate scientific conclusions with political or social affiliations.
...
scientific facts are being wielded like weapons in a struggle for cultural supremacy

To concede that BAU might live another day might be construed as tacit support for BAU.

This...will...not...do.

Therefore in order to reinforce the proper political or social affiliation towards a more favorable future, one must hold onto the dream of:

BOLD PREDICTIONS
-Billions are on the verge of starvation as the lockdown continues. (yoshua, 5/20/20)

HALL OF SHAME:
-Short welched on a bet and should be shunned.

Difficult, when you post the challenge in a website who's posters make your case for you, and have been doing so for longer than a decade.
Plant Thu 27 Jul 2023 "Personally I think the IEA is exactly right when they predict peak oil in the 2020s, especially because it matches my own predictions."

Plant Wed 11 Apr 2007 "I think Deffeyes might have nailed it, and we are just past the overall peak in oil production. (Thanksgiving 2005)"

Peak Oil...or rather Hubbert's numerical model purporting to predict peak oil....is definitely a scientific hypothesis based on scientific principles.

Yes, Hubbert's mathematical model has been proven wrong. However, that does't mean that it was based on unscientific principles.

Cheers!
