Predictions for 2020

Unread postby onlooker » Wed 11 Dec 2019, 12:05:04

A thread to offer any prediction you may have for 2020. I think we will have a major economic downturn in the West. I think Trump will win reelection. And protests will intensify around the world.

Would you care to quantify "major economic downturn"?

With doomers so often claiming a slowdown is a "crash", etc., a doomer claiming next year will see a "major economic downturn" is like an ordinary person claiming next year "the sun will rise daily", so you're not exactly telling us much with that prediction.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Something as bad as 2008 or worse. The powers that be no longer care to prop up the Western consumers with Asians and others picking up the slack. Plus, monetary stimulus via debt is just untenable at this point

I predict the US and global economy will be within "normal" economic parameters for 2020, unlike the usual doomer porn predictions the fast crash fudsters that hang out here like to predict.

So, for example, even if we enter a recession, it will simply be a normal recession. No end of all things "collapse" or any such nonsense. To be clear, not even the scale of the "great recession", or anything close.

...

Not that, of course, if we DO enter an actual recession, there won't be endless CLAIMS of economic collapse by the FUD crowd. Hell, look at the claims they make during economic growth.

OK. Fair enough. That's a prediction we can look at in 2021 and evaluate. Thank you.

I have seen absolutely NO objective predictions or claims by credible economic sources that anything even CLOSE to the 2008 mess is in the offing. In fact, such articles I read explain why it almost certainly is not.

It's not like the west can't monetize much of the debt with inflation over time, if needed. A decade of 70's style inflation would roughly reduce the magnitude of the debt by 3/4's or so in real terms, for example. Very bad for savers, just like in the 70's, but not even beginning to be anywhere near actual "collapse" or "doom".

If the debt continues to grow rapidly and unabated, that would be the most likely scenario OVER TIME, IMO. Note: that does NOT mean hyperinflation, despite Armageddon's endless yammering claims.

I predict increased violence against Trump supporters, at least two attempts on Trumps life, some Democratic politicians going to jail, a desertion of the Dem plantation by many blacks, and an election of Trump by a wide margin. The economy will stay on track until shortly after the election.

In 2024, the Dems will win back the WH after cleaning up their act.

I predict the Senate will not convict and remove Trump from office, thereby defeating the Ds nakedly partisan coup attempt. History will come to see the impeachment as a pathetic and partisan effort to overthrow the 2016 election.

I predict Biden will continue to fade and will not the win the D nomination for president.

I predict the Durham investigation will expose collusion between the Ds and the CIA and foreign intelligence agencies to subvert the 2016 election. The mysterious Maltese Professor who started the Russian Rumors will turn out to be an Italian intelligence agent who was tasked with feeding Popadopolous lies about the Russians, while the Mysterious Oxford professor and his mysterious sexy helper, Asra Turk, will turn out to be CIA agents who were tasked with entrapping Papadopolous and the mysterious Australian who reported Papadopolous will turn to be associated with Australian intelligence agencies. AG Barr has already publicly said he has information about the beginning of the Russian investigation showing that it was politically motivated. I predict Durham and Barr will find that Ds in the CIA and FBI colluded with foreign intelligence agencies to start an FBI investigation of Trump's imaginary dealings with the Russians, and the motive for doing so will be political bias against Trump.

My best guess is the Ds will nominate Pete Butiplug for president. However, the D primary has already been an extremely weird affair, and I wouldn't be surprised if no candidate wins a majority of delegates and they wind up with a brokered convention by late spring 2020. If the Ds go to a brokered convention, then anything could happen. Sanders and Warren could join forces and win, or Michael Bloomberg could bribe everybody and win, or they could even turn to Hillary if no other candidate can win a majority of delegates.

I predict the Ds will win the 2020 election, no matter who they nominate.

I predict the Ds in the house will impeach Trump again when Congress reconvenes after the 2020 elections, just so they can see themselves on TV bashing Trump one last time.

I agree,
Democrats will probably win 2020 election.
Hilary have won popular vote and by now new youngsters (of leftist believes) will be able to vote, more old foxes (conservatives) already died out and more LA migrants are settled and will vote too.
I don't know who it will be in 2020 but 8 years later AOC or Ms Omar may well be a winner.

No one could EVER state for certain about the future. That doesn't prevent fast crash doomers from SAYING they can, constantly, and then revising their forecasts, ad nauseam, of course.

By the way, NO ONE could see this one coming ahead of time, like say in 4Q 2019 -- but you'll hear lots of people claiming they did.

President Trump will be reelected winning both the Popular and Electoral College votes adding at least 2 more states to his win column that he lost in 2016.

Based on?

Biden seems to be ahead in the polls and in the funding, from what I'm seeing.

2020 has already exceeded anyone's imagination.

I don't think predictions will hold a candle to what actually unfolds.

Based on "As Ohio goes so goes the nation". Drive around the Toledo area and the Trump signs outnumber the Biden signs by a substantial margin. In 2016 the HRC/Trump signs were about evenly split, mostly because our idiot ex governor is a never-Trumper who can't get over losing the nomination.

I'm happy to see that most of my predictions for 2020 have come to pass, with the exception of my prediction that Biden would not be the D nominee.

But then I assumed the Ds would actually allow people to vote in the D primaries to decide who the nominee would be, rather than Obama intervening and ordering every D candidate to simultaneously drop out so Biden could run unopposed in the primaries and win.

Even my prediction that the Ds would impeach Trump a second time, which I made as a joke, actually is being considered by Pelosi and the Ds as tactic to stop Trump's SCOTUS nominee.
